Tiles

Stainless steel tiles
These are very expensive.

Ceramic tiles
Available as plan tiles, textured tiled, patterned glazed or unglazed, machine or handmade. Usually comes in the size of 4 ¼ in /105 mm or 6 in/152 mm. Tiles are long lasting, hard wearing and easy to clean.

Plastic laminate
Includes Formica and other laminates. These rigid sheets are made out of paper. They need a perfectly flat surface, which is a rare case in walls. It is therefore practical to fix them on to battens or buy them pre bonded to hard board and fix on to battens.

Vinyl tiles
These are often used in bathrooms. These could be fixed even at kitchens but not behind cookers as they are not completely heat proof.

Mirror
These could create an illusion of space.
