Thanks to the ecology movement earth colours are back on the scene. But there are more dimension to the colours, like varying shades of yellow.

Fabrics should be taken care in natural fibers such as linen or cotton if you want them to last longer. They would better be vacuum dusted once a month and dry-cleaned periodically. Natural fibers will look almost new after cleaning as the dye permeates the threads of natural fibers. So the colour will return as soon as the dust is removed. But try to avoid dark blues, as they tend to fade quickly in the strong sun of Sri Lanka. The next to fade is green and then red. Remember not to vacuum fragile fibers like silk, delicate lace etc. The sucking action may break down the fibers and decay the drape.

What is essential in bedrooms are blackout linings as they blackout sunlight. They come in different colours. They don't draw neatly although black and silver keep out the light best. White is the softest and easiest to work with.

Sheers and lace curtains make good sunscreens. They filter light without completely blocking the view.

10% - 20%, of your interior design cost could be allowed to be spender on window treatments. It is advisable to use a specialist for unique treatments using a neighborhood shop for simple curtains.

Window treatments are time consuming to make and therefore the labour charges are relatively higher.
