EXISTING
WASTE / SEWER / RAINWATER SYSTEM
A
house discharges a considerable amount of foul material, waste
and used water, daily. Unless they are properly disposed they
may create a health hazard and further it might be rather unpleasant
to have waste and bad odor around your home. Therefore, when you
are buying a new plot of land think about existing waste, sewers
and rainwater systems.
If your plot of land is situated in an urban area, it is possible
that you may have all these services. In residential areas, the
waste will be collected daily or weekly depending on the local
authority. Check whether the existing systems are functioning
properly. You also have to check whether their capacity is sufficient
to connect your line as well. For example, the trenches which
are built to drain the rainwater may not be sufficient to let
the rain water flow down and may overflow making the entire area
messy.
If you are planning to build your own cesspool, it could be cleaned
on your request by the local authority or you may have to connect
your home sewer to the public sewer line. Arrange for all these.
Mere provision of facilities may not be enough. They must be maintained
properly. Check whether your waste, sewer and rainwater drainage
systems are maintained properly. In addition try to establish
contact and be knowledgeable about the body that is responsible
for the maintenance of the said facilities.
