High Altitude Areas/
Rain Forests
These are very sensitive environments. Their land value is less
when compared with cities except for areas such as the well-known
Nuwara-Eliya City. If you are going to build in these areas you
may have to obtain various approvals from bodies such as central
environmental authority. You may even have to conduct an environmental
impact assessment to build in such sensitive lands.
These are
especially suitable for hotels, holiday inns etc.
Coastal Zone
In the coastal zone, the land value is fairly high. These are
suitable for hotels, Cabanas Restaurants etc. If you are building
in the coastal zone, before buying your land check the low and
high tide level of the area. If your land is vulnerable to sea
erosion you may have to provide for it.
Be careful in building in the coastal zone. They are very sensitive
environments, which house thousands of different species. If you
go there and ruin the area all the life in the beach may go under
siege.
To build in he coastal zone you may have to obtain approval from
the cost conservation department. In addition, they may demand
you to carry out an environmental impact assessment.
Dry Zone
Areas like Hambantota, Kalmuna, belong to the dry zone. In these
areas the climate is harsh. The land is flat and the vegetation
is not thick. Normally you can expect thick hedges in these areas.
These lands are especially suitable for animal husbandry.
