Bedroom cum private sitting area

When your sitting room gets noisy and when you need a private place to sit back and read you may go for a private sitting area linked to your bedroom. Another option is to raise the bed on a platform and build seating in step formation. You may add bedside tables made of simple hollowed-out box shapes and finished as part and parcel of the same unit.

In a tall narrow bedroom you could put the bed out of the way on a platform and use the space below. The upright supports to the platform should or may incorporate a ladder at one end and shelves for books at the other end.

Sewing in the bedroom

Your bedroom could be used for sewing also as well as for dressing. When your sewing is done in the bedroom, you don't have to clear up everything as visitors drop in. A sewing trolley designed to slide in and out of a wall of built-in bedroom cupboards could be a good idea. It is easy to tidy them up and also you can lock it up to keep it out of reach of your kids. You can even buy this kind of a built-in unit. The area under the bed could be utilized in storing clothing material, scissors etc.

Ironing in the bedroom

If you really need an ironing board in your bedroom you can hang it on one of your bedroom cupboard doors. Or can make use of a flap down cupboard door to fix an ironing board on top of it. Don't forget to fix an electric socket near your ironing board position. It is advisable to fix an asbestos lined locker to store the iron. Provide yourself with a hook or rail beside the ironing board where you can hang up freshly ironed cloths on a coat hanger. You can also use the sewing worktop as an ironing board.
