Expanding
the Group
A seating group with more than three or four permanent pieces is
too much for a living room. If you need to accommodate more people
you would better add some upholstered chairs to your living room
furniture temporarily. Try to keep to few chairs, which could be
folded when they are not in use in your house.
Sizes
of Furniture
There
are no hard and fast rules relating the dimensions of easy chairs
and sofas when it comes to comfort. If you are buying something
new better check whether it is comfortable or not for yourself.
For example low seating of soft appearance may look nice in a
modern room but not in a traditional room.
Full Size Tables
The
height of a dining table will be dependent upon the size of the
chairs. But generally it will be about 724 cm or 28 ½ inches.
But what will be the height of your multiple use table? Will it
have drawers for storage? You will have to decide upon these things
in the light of the layout you have planned for the room in general.
Smaller Tables
The
height of adjacent seats should always be considered. Tabletops
next to armless seating should be level with the bottom of the
seat cushion. Next, a sofa with arms and the table top should
come in ½ in /13 mm to 2 in/55mm below the arms for comfort. Always
remember a central table will be a focal point in your living
room. It should be high enough for informal eating. For materials
you can choose between Glass, Metal, Perspex, Wood Veneers, Plastics
or Marble. This depends on the finish you are expecting.
