Ventilation
Ovens and grills produce clouds of smoking smells. To remove them
use an overhead hood. If vented directly to the outside you need
not to use a fan. If a hood is too expensive for your budget try
a ventilating fan. Some appliances now contain their own ventilating
systems.
Lighting
For efficient work top lighting, fit tungsten tubes behind a pelmet
below the front edge of the wall cupboard units. If there are
no cupboards put the tubes behind a pelmet fixed horizontally
about in frame the wall so that the light would be directed on
to the worktop. Inside the cupboards we a small adjustable spotlights
recessed into the top of the cupboard. Always remember fluorescent
lights does not suit kitchens as they distort the colour of food.
Windows
You can light your kitchen worktop simply by sitting it below
your kitchen window. Laundered windows are practically very good
in kitchens as they can control the ventilation without causing
a draught problem.
Blinds are efficient in kitchens than curtains in your kitchen.
It collects less dirt. If you insist on curtains make sure that
they are fire proof and also make sure that the wind can never
blow them over the hob when the window is open.
